Water
Water is the soul of the place. It gives beauty, resilience, cooling, food, sound and reflection, and it is the first thing you hear when you arrive.
Ponds, channels and seasonal lines are not decorative features. The temperature of the whole hillside changes near them.
Terraces
Terraces
Dry-stone walls step the slope down toward the water, each level planted for scent, pollinators and shade rather than display.
Beauty here is not decoration laid over nature. It is what a working relationship with slope, season and habitat looks like once it settles.
Paths
Paths
Arrival is on foot. Packed earth runs between the oaks and the gardens, opening now and then onto the blue line of the Serra da Estrela.
Thresholds are shaded, viewpoints are earned by a short climb, and the walk between places is part of what the estate offers.
Orchard
Orchard and forest garden
Fruit, herbs, vines and perennial food are woven into habitat and soil cover. Water, terrace, tree and table are one living grammar rather than separate features — the forest garden is where it is easiest to read.
It is slow work: shade first, then fertility, then abundance. And it teaches reciprocity plainly — the land feeds the person; the person returns attention, fertility and protection to the land.
